COMPLIANCE

As the internet has grown more pervasive, the risks to organizations continue to grow. Regulations have increasingly been created to protect data, users, and organizations from potential threats. Often, the regulations require implementation of appropriate information management tools to comply.

Websense can help. Websense products and services not only aid compliance with some of the more prominent information security regulations, but help increase productivity, manage bandwidth, and decrease legal liability.

HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted in 1996 in part to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the United States' health care system by establishing national standards for electronic health care transactions that are currently carried out manually on paper. However, it was also recognized that advances in electronic technology could erode the privacy of health information. Therefore, there are provisions in HIPAA that require health care organizations to adopt privacy and security protections for individually identifiable health information.

Websense Enterprise with Security Filtering, Websense Web Security Suite, and Client Policy Manager can help with compliance and policy-based management of desktop applications and web site visits to prevent access to protected information by unauthorized parties.

GRAMM-LEACH-BLILEY ACT

Section 501 of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) mandates that financial services in firms the United States implement and enforce a written "information security program" to protect non-public customer data. It is therefore important that financial institutions be able to monitor and track any electronic information entering or exiting their messaging systems as an integral part of IT security.

Websense can help financial institutions comply with GLBA by increasing security from web-based threats as well as implementing policy-based management to protect against unauthorized access to sensitive information.
